I bought the car for my son as a project. Based on the disassembly required and short time line till my son's graduation (he wanted it as a senior car) he purchased another car and it became my project. I quickly took the three truck loads of parts and sorted/organized, disassembled entirely and sold what was not needed. Negotiated for the big block and started reassembly. Read and learned as much as I could find out about this make and model, what fit and what did not then began working e-bay. As I started to picture the car in my mind I recalled my early street rods and wanted to see if I could take some of the ideas and apply them. Subtle reductions in its original design and placarding like the Camaro log while paying homage to newer Camaro's with updated mods and only three colors, flat black, red or aluminum/stainless. Since there were no performance 76 Camaro's I decided to make it an SS, using the new style SS logos from the new Monte's and trucks. My son kept on me about how cool it looked the more we primered it black. We began to test out blacking out the grill, the bumpers and some of the trim. The more I saw it the more I liked it. From there we began to downplay the outside performance looks and dropped the car, hiding much of what we do and even added SuperTrapp exhaust tips to calm down the sound. The end result of our idea is a low sleeper that does not scream look at me until you hit the gas, then it is all business... |
